What it does
Water passes through a 10 x 54 inch tank holding 1.5 cubic feet of ResinTech CG10 resin, rated at 48,000 grains. Calcium and magnesium swap onto the resin and stay there, which is what stops scale forming on fixtures, in the water heater and through the plumbing.
The resin recharges itself using salt from the brine tank. The BluePeak ProValve meters your water use and regenerates on demand, so the only routine task is keeping salt in the tank.
Who it is for
Homes where hardness is the specific problem: scale on fixtures, spotting on glassware after the dishwasher, soap that will not rinse clean, a water heater working harder than it should.
It does not filter. There is no carbon in this system, so it does not treat chlorine, taste or odor, and it does not remove iron or sulfur. Add a catalytic carbon tank for chlorine, or look at the Single Tank, which does both. On a well with iron, the Iron Breaker AIO is the right build.
Questions about this system
What’s the difference between a water softener and a water filter?
Different jobs. A softener uses resin and salt to remove calcium and magnesium — the minerals that cause scale, spotting and that film on your skin. A filter uses carbon or specialty media to remove chlorine, taste, odor and other contaminants. Softening doesn’t clean your water; filtering doesn’t soften it. Most Triangle city homes need filtering more than softening. Well homes often need both, plus more.
How much salt will I use?
For a typical Triangle household on a properly sized softener, figure on a bag every two to three months. It depends on your hardness level and how much water you use. If you’re going through salt much faster than that, something is set wrong.
Does a softener need a drain?
Yes. Softeners and backwashing filters discharge during regeneration and need a drain line and a standpipe or floor drain within reach. We confirm this during the site visit.
How long will the system last?
The tank and the valve’s ceramic disc are warrantied for as long as you own it. Media life depends on your water — carbon typically five to ten years, softener resin ten to fifteen. Well water with heavy iron loading is harder on media than city water.
