Chatham County is where the municipal water conversation and the private well conversation happen in the same county, sometimes a few miles apart.
Some of it is on town supply. A lot of it is farmland on private wells. Which one applies to you decides everything about the equipment, and it is the first thing we establish.
On municipal supply, the drinking-water questions here are the same ones we get across the western side of the Triangle: 1,4-dioxane and PFAS. Neither is removed well by conventional municipal treatment. For 1,4-dioxane, reverse osmosis is the practical household-level option. For PFAS, reverse osmosis is the treatment type most commonly used for PFAS at home. If PFAS is your concern, look for a unit certified to NSF/ANSI 53 or 58 for PFAS reduction.
On a private well the problem set is completely different: iron, hydrogen sulfide, sediment and low pH, which is the standard Piedmont groundwater picture.
Well coverage out here is thin among the companies advertising into the Triangle, which is part of why we built a deeper well lineup than a metro-only company needs.

Acidic water corrodes copper plumbing and is hard on treatment equipment downstream. If your well tests below about 6.5, pH correction generally comes first.

Yes, and it's a meaningful share of what we do. Wells in Wake, Harnett, Chatham and Johnston counties commonly come back with iron, hydrogen sulfide, sediment or low pH. Those need genuinely different equipment than a city water home — which is why we test first instead of quoting off a price list.
It corrects acidic water. Low pH is common in NC well water, and acidic water slowly eats copper plumbing — the telltale sign is blue-green staining in sinks and tubs. A calcite neutralizer runs your water through crushed calcium carbonate, which raises the pH back to neutral. If your well tests acidic (the neutralizer is rated for inlet pH 5.0 to 7.0), this usually has to be handled before anything else.
